The Plenary category held posts connected with the monthly sittings of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the sessions where all MEPs vote. Five items from 2017 are archived here.

October 2017

  • US commentary on Brexit. She responded to a comment from an American news organisation that implied Britons had been foolish to vote to leave. She said she was tired of foreign politicians lecturing the UK, and compared the situation to a wartime quip about visiting servicemen.
  • Cybersecurity. The Commission’s enlarged cybersecurity agency, designed to run annual EU-wide exercises and improve sharing of threat information, was treated by her as one more way for the EU to take control of the internet.
  • Brexit discussion in the chamber. MEPs debated the progress of the UK and EU talks, and she said she was unhappy with what she called Brexit bashing and bullying.

About plenary weeks

Plenary sessions are where the Parliament adopts legislation and holds debates with the Commission and Council. The posts here show how an MEP used these weeks to publicise positions, and they should be read as personal commentary rather than official Parliament records.
